6 Insanely Easy DIY Projects To Try This Bank Holiday Weekend

14 August 2017

DIY isn’t all about saws and rawl plugs. There are so many other things you can do if you’re just a novice looking to make some home improvements. So with the bank holiday coming up, our inspiration gurus are here to give you some ideas on how to create an even more beautiful home. All you need is the motivation, an extra pair of hands and your local B&M store. Ready? Let’s go!

Refresh your walls with some new wallpaper

DIY Tips from B&M
You know the one. It could be the spare bedroom, the weird signature wall in the lounge or the one in the kitchen that has seen better days. B&M is filled with lots of different types of wallpaper – from floral to textured, damask to contemporary. We love the Debona Jasmine Glitter Wallpaper at the moment. It provides that cool Scandinavian look which looks great in nurseries, bedrooms and hallways.

And wallpapering isn’t as difficult as you think – if it’s a signature wall you’re doing, there’s no need to call in the experts. Look online for some wallpaper-hanging guides, check out our handy wallpaper calculator, get a helper and off you go!

Update your light shades

DIY Tips from B&M
When was the last time you changed the light shades in your home? If you’re still standing beneath paper light shades, let us introduce you to our lighting range. In particular our Oslo Metallic Pendant Light Shade which is available in brass, gunmetal, chrome and copper. Adding a touch of contemporary living to your home, it’s VERY easy to fit, easy to clean and easy on the eye.

Change your flooring

DIY Tips from B&M
Laminate flooring can change the whole look of a room. It looks great, is easy to clean and is a great alternative to planks, tiles and lino. Our DIY team gives laying down laminate flooring a difficulty rating of medium, so will suit DIY enthusiasts. If you’re new to the whole scene, we recommend you rope someone in who has done this kind of thing before. The Ashdown Oak Effect Laminate Flooring gives a matte finish and is suitable for underfloor heating and has bevelled edges on all four sides.

Fit the shelving

DIY Tips from B&M

As your home expands, you may know how important shelving is to your home. Books, gadgets, toys, products and other household ‘stuff’ can be tidied away nicely to avoid the cluttered look. B&M has tonnes of shelving on offer, but when we caught hold of the Bjorn Hexagon Shelf, we knew this would be going on our bank holiday to-do list. We’re planning on sticking a few of these up in our lounge to create a honeycomb effect.

Step up security

DIY Tips from B&M
Autumn is nearly here and it might be a good time to do a recce of the home before we’re plunged into darkness. This Twin Head Solar Powered Security Light might be getting wired up to the front and back of our homes as a burglar deterrent - and at £11.99 reduced from £17.99, who’s to argue?

Start a winter herb garden

DIY Tips from B&M
The end of summer doesn’t necessarily mean the end of planting. In fact this is a prime time to be planting a whole host of vegetables including peas, garlic, onion, lettuce and broad beans. For an easy way of getting green thumbed, start a herb garden with sage, rosemary, thyme, lavender and mint. Plant them in these gorgeous wooden planters, and when it gets too cold, you can bring them in and put them on your windowsill. These herbs make incredible ingredients for all those pies, roast dinners and casseroles that will be on the menu in the colder months.
