Celebrations in Cardigan as 1st B&M Store Opens in Town
There were celebrations in Cardigan as the town’s first B&M store was officially opened on Thursday.
The variety retailer officially unveiled its brand new B&M Bargains store with Garden Centre, located at the former B&Q on Aberystwyth Road, creating more than 80 jobs in the process.
Of the 500+ B&M stores across the country, the Cardigan store is one of the very few Bargains stores to house a Garden Centre alongside it.
As a result of this, visitors to the store will be able to browse the retailer’s wide range of branded and own-label products, including groceries and homewares, as well as a selection of gardening items.
The store was officially opened by Ann and Ken Evans, on behalf of the Welsh Air Ambulance service, who were chosen by store colleagues to be B&M’s Local Hero for the day.
A B&M Local Hero is an individual or organisation who has made an important contribution to their local community.
Wales Air Ambulance is an all Wales charity providing emergency air cover for those with life-threatening illnesses or injuries.
It costs around £6 million each year to operate the service, with all funds needed for the day-to-day running of the missions raised by the charity.
As well as cutting the ribbon, the charity also received £250 worth of B&M vouchers as a thank you for opening the store.
Also making an appearance at the store opening was the Mayor of Cardigan, Councillor Clive Davies and Mayoress Myra Davies, helping to add extra excitement to the celebrations.
Craig Lewis, store manager at B&M Cardigan, said: “The team from Air Ambulance really stood out for us as they go the extra mile for the community.
“We wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work they do."
On Saturday, customers will also be able to enter the B&M Big Prize Bonanza, a free game show which will be taking place at the store from 9am, with winning prizes including a Russell Hobbs Vacuum Cleaner, B&M vouchers, Cadbury’s chocolates and much more.
