Delight in Devon as B&M Opens 450th Store

01 July 2015

B&M celebrated the opening of its 450th store today, less than a year after its 400th.

The new Home Store in Tiverton, Devon was the location for this memorable event, as B&M continues to fulfil its reputation as one of Britain’s fastest growing retailers.

A total of 70 jobs have been created at the new store, which will offer home furnishings, electrical goods and toys in addition to food and grocery products.

Based at the former Rainbow Superstore on Lowman Way, the Home Store was opened by B&M’s Local Hero for the day – The Devon Air Ambulance Trust.

B&M were honoured to have the Trust in attendance on such a special day and were delighted that they were able to take part in a memorable opening ceremony.

A Local Hero is an award given by store colleagues to an organisation or individual which has made a significant impact on their community.

In addition to cutting the ribbon, the trust also received £250 worth of B&M vouchers as a thank you for taking part.

As a registered charity, the trust needs to raise £4.5million each year to run their service.

Their aim is to “relieve sickness and injury in and around the county of Devon through provision of an emergency Air Ambulance Service.”

In addition, around £1m is needed to ensure aircraft can be replaced after 10 years’ service and to meet significant maintenance and repair costs.

The Mayor of Tiverton, Councillor Dennis Knowles, and Mayoress Mrs Pauline Knowles, were also in attendance to add extra excitement to proceedings.

The fun continues into Saturday, with Frozen princesses Anna and Elsa scheduled to appear alongside a face painter.

Tiverton’s new Home Store is the third B&M store in the Devon area, in addition to stores in Exeter and Barnstaple.

Mark Porter, store manager at B&M Tiverton said: “B&M is committed to recruiting from the local area and we’re proud to have created up to 70 jobs for our first store in the town.

“We are excited to have opened our doors today and already have a team of colleagues who are willing to provide great value products and world class service to our customers."

Sights are now set on store number 500, as B&M continues to bring its great savings to even more shoppers across the UK.
