New Home Store Gives Barrow B&M Boost

04 June 2015

B&M celebrated its latest store opening today, cutting the ribbon on a new Home Store & Garden Centre in Barrow.

Situated at the former Homebase on Hindpool Road, the new store has seen the creation of 40 jobs in the town.

As a result, the pre-existing bargains store at the Hollywood Retail Park has closed, with all 20 B&M colleagues transferring to the new and improved store.

B&M’s other Bargains store in Barrow, on Dalton Road, has not been affected by the changes and continues to trade as normal.

As part of B&M’s Local Hero initiative, representatives from Great North Air Ambulance were present to help cut the ribbon, receiving £250 worth of B&M vouchers as a thank you for attending the ceremony.

A B&M Local Hero is nominated by the store colleagues themselves and can be an individual or organisation who has made a positive impact on their local community, through their charity work or otherwise.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service operates three helicopters, 365 days a year, across the North-East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria.

Their crews respond to around 1,000 call outs each year with on board specialist trauma doctors and paramedics bringing accident and emergency expertise to the scene.

To commemorate the opening B&M invited Mayor of Barrow, Councillor Mrs Ann Thomson, Mayoress Mrs Margaret Garrett and Deputy Mayor, Mrs Anita Husband, who all kindly accepted the chance to be part of the new store opening.

Mark Finan, store manager at B&M Barrow Hindpool said: “We are really proud to have created another 40 jobs across Barrow this year and to continue playing our part in the local community.

“We have been excited to get the doors open after a long wait, and we look to continue providing great value products and world class service to B&M customers.”

The new Home Store & Garden Centre will provide local shoppers with all of the products available in a Bargains store, alongside an extensive non-food section including toys, home furnishing, seasonal ranges and outdoor items.

Children of all ages will have plenty to look forward to over the course of the weekend, as B&M’s opening activities extend to Saturday.

Anna and Elsa from Disney’s hit film Frozen will be on hand to add a touch of sparkle to the day, while a face painter will ensure that the children are thoroughly entertained.

B&M, one of the UK’s fastest growing retailers, now has its 450th store coming ever closer; with no signs of the expansion slowing.
