Mike vs Garry: Charity Run around B&M Bedford 'The Fort' raises funds for Emmaus Village

26 August 2022 - All UK and Northern Ireland Charity News,North West Charity News,South East Charity News

On Saturday 16th July 2022, two B&M employees faced off in a 5km race around the Distribution Centre located at B&M’s Bedford 'The Fort', in aid of the Emmaus Village.

Both Mike and Garry chose the Emmaus Village Charity due to its great work within the Bedford community. The charity aims to combat homelessness in the UK by offering accommodation, help and support for formerly homeless people and those at risk of homelessness.

The Emmaus Village offers each companion their own bedroom whilst living in a supportive and friendly community. In addition, when a companion wishes to move on from the village they will be assisted in finding work and accommodation. Above all else the charity offers a new beginning to those in need and helps to support individuals through the stresses and dangers of homelessness.

With over 250,000 homeless people in the UK, the Emmaus Village’s work is truly needed and goes to great lengths to support the most vulnerable individuals in society.

On the morning of the 16th, Garry and Mike set off on a sunny day for their 5km race around the Distribution Centre at B&M’s Bedford 'The Fort'. With a small crowd of supportive B&M colleagues Garry and Mike completed the race, in the scorching heat, in 28.39 minutes, with Mike being crowned the winner.

So far Garry and Mike’s fundraiser has collected over £500 as the donations still roll in. Taken from the Just Giving page Garry and Mike started they stated,

‘We know that overcoming homelessness often means more than a roof over your head. That’s why Emmaus supports people to work their way out of homelessness, providing meaningful work as well as a stable home for as long as someone needs it.’
