10 Great Ideas for Your Kid's Christmas Eve Box

09 December 2016

T'was the night before Christmas...

Christmas Eve boxes have grown in popularity in recent years, no doubt spurred on by Instagram and Pinterest images being shared across the globe - and in short, we love them!

What goes in a Christmas Eve box? The concept is simple - create a box filled with treats for your little one to open on Christmas Eve, a few hours before bedtime to get him or her settled for the night before the madness of the big day.

We love gathering together bits for our Christmas Eve boxes, and we take inspiration from the pinners, bloggers and stylists out there on the internet. It has now become a festive tradition in our homes - just as much as decorating the tree and making mince pies!

So, let's get started - grab yourself a basket or an old box, and read through some of our Christmas box ideas...

1. A Christmas film

There is enough excitement on Christmas Eve, so a film helps calm pre-Santa nerves. There are so many brilliant Christmas family films out there that it’s hard to pick a favourite, but we adore Elf, Muppet’s Christmas Carol and Home Alone.

2. Christmas pyjamas

No Christmas Eve would be complete without some Christmas pyjamas! We love traditional stripes and fairisle onesies - perfect for keeping your little one nice and warm this winter.

3. Christmas stocking

Decorate the fireplace on Christmas Eve by giving your little one their Christmas stocking to hang up. These rustic character Christmas stockings are wonderfully traditional and can be filled with little trinkets once they’re up in bed and the coast is clear!

4. Cuddly toy

Yes, we know that the kids will get inundated with presents over the next 24 hours, but this Storytelling Christmas Bear is too cute to miss out on! You can always put it away and bring it out next year too - making it a little tradition between you and your child.

5. Gingerbread kit

While you're running around the house getting everything ready for Christmas Day, give your child a fun thing to bide their time. This Giant Gingerbread Man is great fun - decorating him with sweets and icing will pass an hour or so - and you can eat him at the end!

6. Reindeer food

Bag up some porridge oats and glitter - and voila, reindeer food! You and your kid can then sprinkle the contents on to the garden - the sparkle of the glitter will catch the eyes of passing reindeer who can snack on the oats while Father Christmas drops the presents off. Kids will love preparing for Santa’s arrival this way.

7. Christmas morning cereal

Pop in a box of their favourite cereal to get them Christmas Day ready! We love the variety pack from Kellogs - perfect for the holidays!

8. Christmas coins

Because what would Christmas be without a little net of chocolate coins? Great to munch on while you’re watching your Christmas Eve film together too.

9. Hot chocolate kit

Cosy up on the sofa and treat your kids to a lovely warm mug of hot chocolate. We love this set which comes with its own mug, marshmallows and candy canes - surely, you cannot get more Christmassy than that?!

10. Christmas story

When it’s bedtime, you will hopefully have a sleepy child! If not, pack a festive story book into your box for a perfect end to your Christmas Eve. We love T’was the Night Before Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas or this one for smaller children, Little Reindeer Saves Christmas.

Christmas Eve is extra-special as it is the perfect time to have one-to-one time with your little ones before the rush and bustle of the next day. We hope you have a wonderful Christmas Eve with some of these Christmas Box ideas.
