How many BBQs have you had this summer? With August flying by a little too quick for our liking, we feel it’s time to have one last BBQ, to see the warm weather off in style! There are literally hundreds (seriously, Google it) of BBQ sandwiches out there, meaning that the food at your gathering can be both delicious and practical, so here are 8 of our faves.

  • 1 pork roast
  • BBQ sauce
  • ¼ cup chicken broth
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ½ tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp dark brown sugar
  • ½ tbsp chilli powder

You just can’t beat a good pulled pork sandwich, and this recipe is one of the best out there. One of our favourite sandwich fillings, pulled pork, has gained popularity over the last couple of years - and for good reason. Although technically you wouldn’t put pulled pork on the BBQ, it contains BBQ sauce, and can be used as a topping on a beef burger, so that’s good enough for us!

  • 250g of thickly sliced halloumi
  • 1 large red pepper - cut this into four long pieces
  • 2 handfuls of salad leaves
  • 2 burger buns or thick crusty bread

One for the veggies now - although we all know halloumi is a mouth-watering addition to any barbeque sandwich, whether you eat meat or not. When it comes to gourmet sandwich recipes, halloumi is a popular choice, offering a meatless way to add texture and substance to a dish. This barbeque sandwich recipe is actually really easy to make, taking around 20 minutes from start to finish - why not give it a go yourself?

  • 4 skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tbsp of olive oil
  • 4 rashers of smoked bacon

  • 4 small handfuls of baby spinach leaves

One of the most popular sandwich fillings, cajun chicken is a delicious alternative to ordinary chicken, adding a bit of a kick to a common recipe. This easy-peasy recipe can actually be done on the BBQ to finish it off once you’ve started cooking it - just make sure that it’s cooked all the way through before you eat it. You want the outside to be crispy and golden. If in doubt, break one in half - if the inside is pink it need to be cooked for longer.

  • 500g beef mince
  • 60g cheddar cheese
  • 5g butter
  • ½ tsp plain flour
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • Salt

If you’re looking for a really indulgent barbeque sandwich recipe, these cheese stuffed burgers are sure to tick all the boxes. Choose your favourite strength of cheddar cheese, and stuff it inside the burgers. The whole thing takes about 20 minutes, and is sure to be a hit with your guests!

  • 800g of minced chuck steak
  • Olive oil
  • 1 large red onion
  • 1 splash of white wine vinegar
  • 2 large gherkins
  • 4 brioche burger buns
  • 4 - 8 rashers of smoked streaky bacon
  • 4 tsp of mustard
  • Chipotle sauce
  • 4 thin slices of Red Leicester cheese
  • 4 tsp of tomato ketchup
  • ¼ iceberg lettuce
  • 2 tbsp of mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp Worcester sauce
  • 1 tsp brandy (optional)

Don’t let the name put you off, this amazingly delicious burger is the perfect barbeque sandwich to add to your menu! Also it’s a Jamie Oliver recipe, so you know it will be delicious! Plus, steak sandwich ideas are always a winner.


Gluten free and vegan falafel carrot burgers

Shopping list:

  • 350g grated carrots
  • 3 large cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 2 tins of drained chickpeas
  • Some small sprigs of parsley
  • 5 tsp of ground coriander
  • 2 tsp of cumin
  • 1 tsp of sea salt

This delicious falafel recipe is sure to impress everyone - veggie or not! It’s gluten free too, so everyone can enjoy one, or three. It’s really easy to make as well, taking around half an hour from preparing to the table. The amount of ingredients shown make a whopping ten burgers - so just adjust accordingly if you don’t need that many.

  • 1 large chicken breast fillet
  • Mayonnaise
  • 1 spring onion
  • 1 tbsp white wine vinegar
  • 2 ciabatta rolls
  • 1 little gem lettuce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 300g potatoes

How delicious does this crusty chicken ciabatta look? It should take you about half an hour from start to finish, and will keep up to 5-6 days, so they’re great for making a couple of days in advance if this makes things easier for you.

  • 24 ounces of ground turkey
  • 12 ounces of ground chorizo
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 jalapeno peppers, chopped
  • Splash of olive oil
  • Cheddar cheese slices
  • 6-8 toasted buns

Let’s finish off with something extra tasty - these turkey and chorizo burgers really hit the spot. In all fairness, they had us at guacamole - which you can top up these burgers with for a nice cooling effect.
