8 Weeks to go until Christmas! What to do Checklist

30 October 2017

Can anyone quite believe that it’s only eight weeks until Christmas? It only seems like yesterday that we were strolling about in shorts and t shirts! But yes, anyway Christmas is coming round quickly as always, and this year we’ve all promised we’ll be more prepared so that the 25th of December is less stressful.

But what should you be doing during this time? It’s a bit early to be wrapping presents (unless you’re one of those incredibly organised people, in which case hats off to you!), but here are four things you should start to think about over the eight week milestone.

B&M Top Tip: why not be super organised and jot everything you need to do in a special ‘Things To Do’ pack?

Start making a present list

Now’s the time to start asking people what they’d like for Christmas. Make a list of people who you expect to buy presents for, and then add to it if you get given anything from someone unexpected. One of the main benefits of preparing for Christmas early is that you can start thinking about gifts in advance, which minimises the chances of having to endure that crazy Christmas Eve dash into town for someone who’s been forgotten!

When making your list, it’s a good idea to write down two or three possibilities for each person - just in case one of their choices is out of stock / too expensive / has to be imported from a far-flung destination.

B&M Top Tip: We have a range of gifts in store, why not pop in and have a browse?

Plan where you and others are going to be

When planning for Christmas, it’s vital that everyone is aware of where they’re going to be over the festive period. Are you staying at home? Do you have relatives flying in from overseas? Do any special allowances need to be made? Etc.

B&M Top Tip: does anyone who is coming over for Christmas have special dietary requirements? If so, start planning their alternative (i.e. a meat free option) now.

Start budgeting

If you get paid monthly, there’s only two more paydays until the big day - so we recommend that you try to put some of this month’s paycheck away in preparation for Christmas. We all know how expensive the festive season can be, so saving a little bit from this pay packet will help lessen that January sting. It may mean tightening the old purse strings this month, but your credit card will thank you come December!

Double a couple of your meals and freeze them

It’s no secret that, as Christmas gets closer, we have less time to spare. Give yourself the gift of time this Christmas by doubling up on some of your meals and putting them in the freezer. You’ll thank yourself in December when you have one less thing to worry about.

Buy Christmas stamps

Avoid the stress of being in the post office in December and buy your Christmas stamps now. Even better, why not be extra organised and start writing your cards? Here at B&M, we have a range of Christmas cards - including mini cards (great for work colleagues or classmates) and traditional foil cards. It's also a good idea to think about buying Christmas decorations round about now, to beat the mad rush - we love the standing reindeer and and light up wreath
