19 July 2017

Summer has officially arrived, and that means one thing… fire up the barbie! Here at the B&M office we can’t get enough of a good old BBQ, and there are loads of vegetarian BBQ ideas that are perfect if you’re a vegetarian or vegan, or if you just don’t fancy grilling meat this time.

We’ve looked through Pinterest to find the very best vegetarian BBQ food recipes - enjoy!

Shopping list:

2 large sweet potatoes
Olive oil
Salt
2 smoked garlic cloves
Freshly chopped mint leaves
1 large red chilli, seeded and finely chopped
Extra virgin olive oil
Sherry vinegar

You can’t have a vegetarian BBQ food list without featuring sweet potatoes somewhere on it, and here’s the first offering. The great thing about this recipe is that it looks like a lot more effort has gone into it than actually has. It can be served warm or cold for the perfect summer treat.

The shopping list for this one is pretty long - head over to the blog to see for yourself!

These wings are perfect for dippin’ and eatin’ - and they’re completely meat free. They’re a little trickier to make - but get these right and they’re so worth it. Spice lovers can add some crushed red pepper flakes to the mix to give them a bit of extra zzzing!

Shopping list:

Black beans
Cooked brown rice
1 onion
1 teaspoon of crushed fennel seeds
½ teaspoon of garlic salt
1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
25g of breadcrumbs
Flat-leaf parsley

Did you know that it’s actually the law that you have to feature at least one burger recipe on a BBQ food list? Well, not really - but we do have a pretty amazing vegan burger recipe to share with you. Unlike many other veggie burgers, if done correctly these shouldn’t fall to bits once you stick them on the grill.

Chickpea and mushroom burger

Shopping list:

240g of chickpeas
2 tablespoons of flour
1 small red onion
2 large cloves of garlic
75g of mushrooms
1 tablespoon of tahini
Half a teaspoon of sea salt
Half a medium sized apple
1 teaspoon of dried parsley
1 tablespoon of fresh rosemary
1 medium sized tomato

Veggie burger number two is a really healthy and delicious chickpea and mushroom creation. Don’t be put off by the long list of ingredients - these are actually pretty simple to make. They look fantastic on their own or in a bun, and are a tasty alternative to the run-of-the-mill beef variety.

Shopping list:

½ cup of fresh parsley
2 tablespoons of fresh oregano, finely chopped
5 cloves of garlic, minced
1 spring onion, finely chopped
1 medium red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped
½ a cup of olive oil
2 tablespoons of red wine vinegar
Lime juice
Salt and pepper to taste

Okay, okay… so this one’s not technically something you’d stick on the grill, but we think it would make a delicious addition to any BBQ so we thought we’d add it to our list anyway. Zingy and fresh, this summertime sauce is perfect for dolloping on top of a veggie burger to make it a bit more interesting. Leave it to marinade in an airtight container for one week to make it extra special.
