Kitchen Ideas to Refresh Your Space in 2023

26 January 2023

Everyone knows that the kitchen is the heart of the home, so if you’re planning to rejuvenate yours this year, you should aim to make it a convenient, welcoming and fun place to be!

Whatever your kitchen layout - whether you have a separate or combined dining area, kitchen islands, open shelving or anything else besides - there are loads of ways to transform it into your perfect cooking and entertaining space.

Read on for top tips from the B&M team on how to spruce up your kitchen design.

Declutter Your Countertops with Neat Containers

We know how quickly every kitchen cabinet seems to fill up! From there, it’s easy to end up with items spilling out onto counters and shelves.

To avoid your space looking messy and disorganised, why not invest in some attractive containers, such as jars, pots and canisters? These serve as extra storage as well as making your counters easier to organise.

B&M Top Tip: Decant products into your containers as soon as you come back from a grocery shopping trip to prevent clutter from building up unchecked.

Double up Attractive Cookware as Kitchen Decor on Shelves

Another way to make your kitchen storage go further is actually to keep certain items out on display.

It’s best not to clutter your shelving with unnecessary ornaments - particularly in small spaces where storage is at a premium. Instead, why not pick some of your prettiest serving sets, boards, platters, bowls and even cooking pots, and arrange them out in the open for all to see?

Not only will this make them easier to access, but it will also free up your cupboards and cabinets and offer a practical way to style your kitchen without taking up valuable shelf space unnecessarily.

B&M Top Tip: This technique will also give you a valid excuse to go out and pick up more visually interesting cookware, which, in turn, may well encourage you to spend more time trying out new dishes!

Twin Your Kitchen Accessories with Your Appliances

You don’t need to spend money repainting your kitchen walls. Even the plainest white kitchens with stainless steel fittings can look fun and colourful with a few clever touches.

You can completely transform your space simply by choosing stylish countertop appliances and accessories in the right hues.

Ditch your old kettle, toaster and anything else that looks a little worn out, and replace them with new matching items in a colour of your choice.

B&M Top Tip: When the time comes to purchase new oven gloves or mitts, tea towels, aprons, waste bins and any other accessories, try to select things that tie into that chosen colour scheme.

Make the Most of Natural Light and Light Fittings

Light is vital in cooking areas - particularly when working with delicate measurements. Try to keep your window areas free from clutter to ensure that enough natural light gets in.

You can also add a touch of style by changing up your light fittings. One of our favourite kitchen island ideas involves the use of pendant lighting: a low pendant light on a separate switch to the rest of the kitchen can give a chilled-out mood with the other lights turned out.

Of course, the right lighting can also make a small kitchen feel much bigger!

B&M Top Tip: Enhance the effect of the light coming through your windows by giving the panes an affordable makeover. B&M offers an adhesive film that provides all kinds of effects, from frosted and stained glass to attractive patterns.

Make Your White Goods Work for You

It can be hard to find the right replacement fridge, dishwasher or other larger appliance once your existing items have started to look scruffy - particularly if they were originally installed as part of a carefully-measured fitted kitchen.

However, there is an alternative. Certain appliances can be painted! Spray painting is usually best to provide a flawless, streak-free finish. Simply make sure you select the right product.

Wear a mask and ensure that you are in a well-ventilated area before you spray anything. You should do your best to protect anything you don’t want sprayed!

B&M Top Tip: If you feel that your cooking options are limited by very basic appliances or a lack of space, there are plenty of smaller gadgets available that can help to expand your range - from hob top griddle plates to air fryers, compact ovens, hot plates and more!

From a new slant on kitchen storage to fun and affordable ways to add colour to your space, follow the above tips to help your kitchen feel fresh this year.
