B&M Unveils Fresh New Look and Experience at Its Wigan Store
20 August 2026
Discount retailer B&M is proud to relaunch its Worthington Way store in Wigan following an extensive seven-phase transformation that has created a brighter, more contemporary shopping experience for customers.
The 24,2449sqft store has undergone a significant refurbishment while remaining open throughout the project, allowing shoppers to see the transformation take shape phase by phase. The refreshed store officially launches on Friday 28th August 2026.
Driven by customer and colleague feedback, the newly transformed store has been selected as B&M’s first store of the future concept location, making it the testing ground for innovative layouts, merchandising concepts, technology, and customer-focused initiatives to help inform the future evolution of the B&M store experience.
B&M’s store manager commented:
“We’re thrilled to be unveiling our newly transformed Worthington Way store. The team have worked incredibly hard throughout the refurbishment, and we’re proud to offer our customers a fresh new shopping environment, packed with all the great value and products they know and love from B&M.”
They added:
“This relaunch is a fantastic milestone for both our store and the local community. Being selected as B&M’s concept store makes it even more exciting, as we’ll be trialling new ideas and innovations that could help shape the future of our stores. We’re looking forward to welcoming customers old and new over the celebration weekend and showcasing everything the refreshed store has to offer.”
Customers visiting the new-look store will discover a range of improvements designed to makes shopping easier and more enjoyable, including a brand-new frozen food department self-checkout tills, enhanced product displays, and improved signage throughout the store. Updated wayfinding has also been introduced to help customers navigate the store more easily.
Behind the scenes, new technology is enabling colleagues to provide an even better level of service. Communication headsets and customer assistance buttons have been introduced to help teams respond more quickly to customer needs, while also providing valuable insight into how technology can enhance the shopping experience across B&M’s wider store estate.
The investment reflects B&M’s ongoing commitment to delivering an enhanced shopping experience for customers while continuing to evolve its stores for the future. As the retailer’s first Store of the Future location, the Worthington Way store will play a key role in helping to shape the next generation of B&M stores across the UK.
B&M’s CEO Tjeerd Jegen said:
“We’re incredibly excited to open our new Wigan store, the first to showcase our new Store of the future concept. We’ve listened to our customers and colleagues to create a shopping experience that is more inspirational, more intuitive, and even easier. From the excitement of our seasonal ranges and clearer navigation to the convenience of self-checkout, every change has been designed to make shopping at B&M even better while continuing to deliver the amazing value our customers expect.”
To celebrate these new changes, B&M is set to host a weekend of family-friendly festivities from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th August. Celebrations will begin with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10am on Friday 28h August, led by the Mayor of Wigan alongside representatives from local charity The Brick. Wigan Warriors first-team players will also make special appearances from 11am.
Throughout the weekend, customers can enjoy giveaways, prizes, goody bags from some of B&M’s biggest brands, and entertainment for the whole family as the retailer celebrates its transformation with the local community.
As part of the celebrations, store colleagues nominated local charity The Brick, Queen’s Hall Action on Poverty, to officially unveil the transformed store. In recognition of the charity’s important contribution to the local community, B&M will also donate £500 worth of vouchers to support its ongoing work.
