Jobs Boost For Tolworth As B&M Growth Gathers Pace

25 February 2015

B&M has created 40 jobs in Tolworth after opening its latest store in the town.

One of the UK’s fastest growing retailers, B&M opened its 400th store at the end of last year and has grown from strength to strength in 2015.

Its latest expansion brings secure employment opportunities to the south-west London suburb at the site of the former Budgens on Ewell Road. Doors to the B&M Bargains store opened for the first time on Wednesday morning, welcoming hundreds of shoppers.

The ribbon cutting was undertaken by B&M’s special guests for the day, representatives from the Fircroft Trust; a local charity working in Kingston upon Thames.

The charity works with adults with mental health problems and/or learning disabilities and was nominated by the store colleagues themselves. It will receive £250 worth of B&M vouchers as a thank you for opening the store and helping make it such a special occasion.

Jill Fletcher Meloun, PR & Fundraising Manager for the Fircroft Trust, said: “We are thrilled to have been chosen by the new colleagues at B&M to open the shop in Tolworth.

“In spite of one in four people facing mental issues, mental health remains rife with stigmas and misunderstandings. We are therefore very grateful to B&M for this opportunity to highlight the vital work we do in the community.”

Representatives from the Fircroft Trust were joined by the Worshipful Mayor of Kingston upon Thames, Councillor Ken Smith JP who was present to make it a landmark occasion for the town.

Ben Gough, store manager at B&M Tolworth said: “B&M is committed to recruiting from the local area and I am delighted we’ve found a great team from in and around Tolworth. We’re really proud to be creating 40 jobs across the town this year and playing our part in the local community.”

Ben added: “We were honoured to have representatives from the Fircroft Trust alongside the Mayor cutting the ribbon to officially mark the opening of our new store.”

Customers can expect a wide variety of branded and own label products from its convenient location on Ewell Road including groceries and toiletries as well as an extensive non-food section including toys, home and seasonal ranges.
