New B&M in Barnsley Opened By ‘Local Hero’

25 April 2014

B&M has created another 50 jobs in Barnsley after opening a new shop at the former PC World on Old Mill Lane in the town. The finishing touches were completed to the 14,000sq ft store which opened on Friday 25th April at 9am.

Customers can expect a wide variety of branded and own label products from its convenient location on Old Mill Lane including groceries and toiletries as well as an extensive non-food section including toys, soft furnishings, home and gardening ranges.

The ribbon cutting was undertaken by 7 year old ‘local hero’ Jake Blatch. Jake suffers from a very rare blood disorder and was nominated for his tireless fundraising for Diamond Blackfan Anaemia UK. The charity received £250 worth of B&M vouchers as a thank you for opening the store. It was the store colleagues themselves who identified Jake as whom they would like to support and see ‘cut the ribbon’. Jake was joined by the Mayor of Barnsley who also kindly accepted an invitation to be part of the store’s opening morning.

Adam Pollock, Store Manager at B&M Barnsley Old Mill said: “We were excited to get the doors open on Friday 25th April and delighted to play a part in the local community with the opening of our second store in Barnsley. We were also honoured to have Jake officially open the new store; he is a true local hero! Having our colleagues personally select Jake to mark the store’s first day made it extra special”.
