How To Use White Vinegar For Cleaning
26 August 2022
You may have been wondering about the best ways to keep your house spic and span while saving those much-needed pennies. Well, look no further! The best all-purpose cleaner is more than likely sitting in your cupboard right this moment.
Although multipurpose cleaning products are certainly convenient because they can be used on a range of surfaces, many of them aren’t good for our health or the environment.
White wine vinegar, on the other hand, is a powerhouse of an ingredient when it comes to natural and eco-friendly cleaning. Vinegar is also made of acetic acid, which is a natural disinfectant for killing some of the most common germs like salmonella and E. coli.
This is why here at B&M we recommend using white vinegar as it doesn’t break the bank, is a non-toxic alternative and is eco-friendly.
We also recommend adding fruit peels, herbs or essential oils such as tea tree oil to the bottle of white vinegar so your house will not only be as clean as a whistle, but it will also smell great, too!
Although not an exhaustive list, here are some examples of household items and work surfaces that can be cleaned with white vinegar. We have also included cleaning tips so you can get the most out of this amazing product.
Clean Washing Machines With White Vinegar
It may surprise you to discover that you can use white vinegar to clean your washing machine so it works like new. To do this, simply set your washing machine to run on its highest and hottest setting. Then, add four cups of white vinegar and turn the machine on. Once it's filled up, pause the washing machine to allow the warm water and vinegar to sit for an hour to clean it efficiently.
Once the first washing cycle has finished, you can also pour in a cup of baking soda and start your washing machine once again on the hottest and highest settings for an even more intensive clean.
If you're looking to give your kitchen a much-needed sweep while you are busy cleaning, then look no further than our Coloured Cleaning Brush Set. It is a lightweight cleaning set that will brighten up your household cleaning cupboard.
Clean Coffee Makers With White Vinegar
White vinegar can also be used to clean coffee makers as it will remove mineral buildup and will help to descale. To do this, pour equal parts of water to vinegar directly into the water reservoir. Then run it through the coffee maker and rinse thoroughly with water.
For automatic coffee makers – the ones that use coffee pods – it may be advisable to run water through to remove the smell and taste of vinegar before use.
Clean Blenders and Food Processors with White Vinegar
If you’re struggling to remove stubborn food stains and strange smells, then white wine vinegar may be the answer to your problems. Simply add equal amounts of warm water to vinegar and blitz it in the blender or food processor, then wash just as you normally would.
Clean Stainless Steel with White Vinegar
White vinegar is a safe and effective way to remove oil and grime from stainless steel surfaces. All you need to do is find a reusable spray bottle and dilute the vinegar with equal parts of water.
A great option is our Reusable Metallic Spray Bottle which is brilliant for cleaning around the house. The slogan on the bottle reads “cleaning” and is available in two other unique designs: ‘windows’ and ‘spritz’.
Then spray the white vinegar solution on and wipe it off – there’s no need to even rinse! Because most stainless steel is used in the kitchen it should be cleaned after every use and white vinegar is perfect for this.
We also recommend the Silicone Cleaning Sponge as the perfect essential to be used with white vinegar to wipe away the dirt on stainless steel.
Another great option is the Minky M Cloth Anti-Bacterial Cleaning Pad & Mini Pad. The Original M Cloth Anti-Bacterial Cleaning Pad is dual-sided for effective powerful scrubbing, making light work of all cleaning and washing up tasks.
Clean Cloudy Wine Glasses with White Vinegar
In areas that have hard water, minerals can cause wine or drinking glasses to become cloudy. Here is where white vinegar comes to the rescue!
All you need to do is soak them in the sink with non-diluted vinegar for a few minutes and then wash them as normal. The vinegar should then dissolve the minerals with ease.
If you want the white vinegar already in a handy spray bottle, then look no further than Stardrops White Vinegar Spray which is approximately 750ml. It is a multi-purpose cleaning spray that is particularly effective against limescale. This ideal cleaning home accessory can also be used as a stain remover on clothing.
Clean Your Windows with White Vinegar
The acidic composition of white vinegar means it can swiftly break down dirt that commonly accumulates on glass surfaces. By washing a window using a solution that contains white vinegar, the result will be clean windows free from streaks.
To accomplish this, simply mix one part hot water with one part distilled vinegar. To sponge clean, moisten the window using the solution and then clean. To squeegee clean, dampen the squeegee and then clean from top to bottom, making sure to wipe the edge of it after each stroke.
We would recommend our Addis Premium Squeegee that will keep your windows clean and shiny, especially while on a budget. If you're looking for a window set then we have the product for you! The Addis Window Cleaning Set makes the windows in your home shine and will fulfil all your cleaning needs as it is complete with a squeegee and two add-ons.
