This morning at 8am on Saturday 17th May 2025, B&M store colleagues were proud and excited to open the doors to their brand-new store located in Bishop Auckland, County Durham. The launch of this new store has created 40 new jobs for local people and serves as a significant boost to the local economy.
After taking possession of a former Homebase, the unit has since undergone an extensive internal and external development program to accommodate B&M’s range of exciting products. It now provides a sales space of 8,267sqft. featuring the famous B&M layout everyone loves.
The store manager from B&M commented: “We’re feeling extremely positive about the creation of more jobs for local people, and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store.”
Customers can expect to find a wide variety of branded groceries for the best possible price including a range of food, drink, and pet food. There is also a fantastic selection of quality health & beauty products, homeware, electricals, DIY essentials, toys, games, gifts, and plenty more to explore.
For the grand opening of the store this morning, B&M store colleagues were asked to invite along a local charity who they think deserves the spotlight for all the hard work they do in the community. They chose the team from County Durham & Sunderland Foodbank to take centre stage and officially open the doors to the public with a ceremonial ribbon cut to mark the special occasion.
County Durham & Sunderland Foodbank works to help local people in crisis. They don’t think anyone in the community should have to face going hungry so provide three days nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred in crisis. County Durham & Sunderland Foodbank have supplied 18,341 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis in the last year and rely on the support of the local community for food donations, volunteering and finances.
The store manager also commented: “County Durham & Sunderland Foodbank really stood out for us, so we wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work that they have done. We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work they do.”
