Make it Through Dry January With These Mocktails & Smoothies!

04 January 2019

New year, new you! Kick-start your 2019 with a healthy lifestyle by dropping alcohol completely for the month of January.

Not only does it benefit your health - as confirmed by a study from the University of Sussex - and give you a positive start to the year, it can help you raise money for a charity close to your heart.

If you love the taste of certain drinks though, and really don't fancy giving them up completely, you could try your hand at an alcohol-free version. Check out our delicious mocktails!

Non-Alcoholic Sangria

It may be winter but there’s always time for a sangria, especially during dry January!

Serve a pitcher of this to some guests, and enjoy some tasty food to go with it. An added bonus is you’ll have no hangover the next morning!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of boiling water
  • 2 black tea bags
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • 2 cups of cranberry juice
  • 2 cups of orange juice
  • 1 orange, lemon, lime & apple, all sliced

Pour the boiling water over the tea bags and cinnamon sticks in a large pitcher and leave to sit for 5 minutes. Once you’ve discarded the tea bags, stir in the sugar and then add all of the juice and fruit. Refrigerate for at least one hour, but for the best taste, leave it in the fridge overnight.

Virgin Pina Colada

Pina Colada is all about the rum, but this is a healthy non-alcoholic month, so try this mocktail that centres on pineapple juice and coconut cream.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 3/4 cup of pineapple juice
  • ¼ cup coconut milk & coconut cream
  • 1 tablespoon of white sugar or honey
  • Pineapple slices

Whip out your electric blender, pop all of the ingredients in and mix them all up. It couldn’t be easier to enjoy a stunning Virgin Pina Colada. Give it the finishing touch by garnishing with your pineapple slices.

Frozen Berries & Banana Smoothie

Stepping away from alcohol-related drinks, this Berries & Banana Frozen Smoothie would be a perfect drink to enjoy this month.

Containing strawberries, sliced banana, blackcurrants, blackberries, and raspberries, it has all the healthy goodness your dry January needs!

It counts towards one of your five-a-day too! Click here for the full recipe.
